The Pashtuns attempted to attack these British strongholds between August 27 and September 11, 1897, but were repeatedly defeated by the 36th Sikh regiment, led by Col. ![]() Those who were enthralled by the film "Kesari" would be even more so by what a group of 21 young Sikh lads accomplished in the Battle of Saragarhi. The legend of Saragarhi's fight is told here. During this encounter, all 21 troops of the 36 Sikh Regiment battled with unrivalled heroism and valour against the Afghan hordes, and went down in history as superheroes. Today is the 124th anniversary of the Battle of Saragarhi, one of history's greatest last stands, which was fought on September 12, 1897, in the Samana Valley of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which was then part of India, by 21 Sikh soldiers of the British India Army against 10,000 Afghans.
